Sangster, who appeared in Game of Thrones and the Queen’s Gambit, will star in the first two episodes of the documentary, which traces the liberation route across Europe. He will also discuss his family’s involvement in the war effort.
Others featured include Belgian film director and actor Bouli Lanners, whose credits include Eldorado and The Giants; Algerian actress Sarah Kaminsky; Belgian actor Bart Peeters; Dutch actor Geza Weisz; and German actor Christian Berkel.
Producing the film is Brussels-based Czar Film and TV’s Eurydice Gysel. The project was funded by Netflix for the first time since a law came into effect in Belgium requiring Netflix to invest 2% of its income from subscriptions in Flanders into Flemish content. Netflix will cover 40% of the total budget.
Also supporting the documentary were Belgian Tax Shelter, Telenet and Dutch FilmWorks.
