The Nintendo Switch is still a big winner over two years later.

Nintendo’s past success made the Nintendo Switch a near-guarantee for success. It is surprising, however, just how versatile this hybrid console would prove to be

Welcome to the world of Nintendo Switch – a gaming console that took the world by storm and changed the face of gaming forever. It’s not an Xbox (Microsoft’s video-gaming brand) or a PlayStation (developed by Sony Computer Entertainment).

But that’s the beauty of the Nintendo Switch – it’s affordable enough for those who can’t invest in an expensive Xbox or PlayStation. It offers gamers the choice to choose how they want to play (more on that later) and the type of games they want to play. Here’s a look at everything you ever wanted to know about the Nintendo Switch – and more.

Nintendo Switch Pro: should you wait for it?

Those who already own a Switch Lite and a 4K TV should wait until next year.  Several reports suggest the next Switch will render games in 4K, and you shouldn’t settle for a lesser experience. With a Switch that is future-proof, you will be able to enjoy 4K gaming.

While the default Switch visuals may seem outdated, it would make sense for Nintendo to update its next console release to match the times. As more people upgrade to 4K TVs and manufacturers release games in 4K, it makes sense for Nintendo to catch up on its next console release.

Even though Nintendo hasn’t announced their plans for next year, it seems likely that they will have something in store for us. If it’s something significantly better than the Switch, then you’d be better off buying it.

What is Nintendo Switch?

The Nintendo Switch is a gaming console developed by the well-known Japanese video gaming company, Nintendo. It is a fully functional home game console (just like the Wii-U), but it can operate as a hand-held device (just like Nintendo’s 3D S). The Nintendo Switch is commonly just referred to as “Switch” and is one of today’s most sort-after gaming consoles.

Nintendo Switch – a hybrid console

The Switch is a tablet that can be docked (TV mode) to provide output to a TV. Or, use it in hand-held mode if you want a portable device to play on the go. It can even be used in table-top mode as a home console.

The Switch’s software supports online gaming – all you require is internet connectivity. It can also support local wireless connectivity with other consoles.

Nintendo Switch games and software are available as ROM cartridges and in a digital format – both available on the Nintendo eShop.

Nintendo Switch Lite

A lighter version of the Nintendo Switch, known as the Nintendo Switch Lite, was released in September 2019. Is it worth it to buy a Nintendo Switch Lite?

This is the most common argument for the existence of the Switch Lite, however, it does not hold water. Video games are as popular with kids as with adults. Even though the additional cost is a concern, it is worth it in this case. Simply put, it removes what makes the original so unique.

How are the Nintendo Switch and Lite different?

Switch Lite has a longer battery life than the original Switch, but the 2019 Switch refreshes it by significantly more. The Nintendo Switch is probably best for people who play games on their TV. In the end, having a Switch that actually switches is what these consoles are all about.

List of games that don’t support Handheld Mode

In the event that a new title is released without support for handheld mode, we’ll update this page.

  • 1-2-Switch
  • Just Dance
  • Super Mario Party
  • Fitness Boxing
  • Fitness Boxing 2: Rhythm & Exercise
  • Ring Fit Adventure
  • Nintendo Labo

On your Lite, you can still play these games. You just need Joy-Cons, a way to prop up the Switch and excellent vision to see on the 5.5-inch screen. There are only two items in the list that present truly insurmountable problems.

About Nintendo

Nintendo Company Limited is a Japanese multinational electronics and video gaming company headquartered in Kyoto. The company was founded in 1889 by Fusagiro Yamauchi and originally produced hand-made Hanafuda playing cards.

Nintendo officially released the Nintendo Switch in early 2017 in Japan and several English-speaking and Western countries. In the United States, the Nintendo Switch was priced at US$299.99. In the UK, it was priced at £279.99, and in Australia, the Switch sold at AUD 469.95.

At the launch of the Nintendo Switch, two bundles were made available. The first bundle consisted of grey joy-cons, and the second bundle consisted of neon red and blue joy-cons. Nintendo believed that if they priced the Switch higher, that it would impact sales. So, the company decided to keep costs low and not include any additional hardware or additional games.

Why the Nintendo Switch is better than PlayStation

Agreed that the PlayStation is a more powerful gaming console than the Nintendo Switch.

However, it does not mean that the PlayStation5 is the best option for you. If you are a gamer who likes to keep up-to-date with the latest gaming technology, then, by all means, go with the PS5. However, if you are interested in hosting game nights from a single TV screen or playing games with the family, then the Nintendo Switch is your best solution.

Unlike the PS5, the Nintendo Switch allows you to play your favourite games not just on your TV but also wherever you go. The joy-cons slide off easily, so you can convert the system into a multiplayer gaming console.

While both consoles have great game libraries, the Switch is known to have better controller options than the PlayStation.

If you want to own a gaming console, but don’t have a massive budget, then the Switch or the Switch Lite is your best option.

Cons of Nintendo Switch

Although it is a fantastic gaming console, there are some negatives.

Joy-con drift: Particles get into the small cracks in the Nintendo controllers, making it a nightmare to play some games.

Low battery life: If you plan on a long night of gaming, you will be disappointed with the Switch’s battery life.
