Martha Stewart was a model long before she became a multimedia lifestyle guru/mogul. She began her career at the age of fifteen. As a Barnard College student, she had a part-time job to supplement her scholarship. She worked for brands such as Chanel and Unilever. Moreover, she starred in television commercials. Companies such as Tareyton Cigarettes, Breck, Lifebuoy, and Clairol are some examples.

Martha Stewart Early life
Marta Stewart was born on August 3, 1941, in New Jersey. The daughter of Edward Kostyra (1912-1979) and Martha Ruszkowski Kostyra (1914-2007), she was the second of six children. As Stewart approached his third birthday, the family moved from Nutley to New Jersey. As a Catholic confirmation name, Grace was chosen for her.
She worked as a babysitter, sometimes as young as 10, for the children of Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, and Gil McDougald, all New York Yankees. Stewart watched and organized birthday parties for Mickey and Merlyn Mantle’s four sons. Modeling was also part of her career path. Stewart appeared in a television commercial for Unilever at the age of 15. Tareyton featured her in an article entitled “Smokers would rather fight than switch! “.Ads for cigarettes. Additionally, she supplemented her scholarship money while in college by working as a model for $50/hour. Chanel was one of her clients.

Cooking and sewing were taught to Stewart by her mother. When she visited her grandparents in Buffalo, New York, she learned how to can and preserve food. Nutley High School is where Stewart graduated. She studied at Barnard College of Columbia University. Planned to major in chemistry, but switched to art, history, and architectural history. Fashion modeling for Chanel helped her pay for college. While she was completing her degree, she met Andrew Stewart, a Yale Law School graduate. In 1961, they got married. She went back to Barnard a year after their wedding to earn a degree in history and architectural history.
