Jiji is an Anime Cat Boy; however, In the original Japanese script, Jiji is actually female. Also, a difference in the original Japanese is left ambiguous as to whether Jiji ever regained the ability to speak with Kiki.

Jiji is Kiki’s pet cat and her close st companion in the film Kiki’s Delivery Service, directed by Hayao Miyazaki of Studio Ghibli. Jiji provides the voice of reason for Kiki, a young witch-in-training prone to impulsive choices that on occasion put her in danger. When Jiji isn’t busy making sure Kiki doesn’t accidentally hurt herself, he goes off pursuing his own interests, including romantic ones.

Jiji exhibits less-than-typical feline behaviour, but he’s got feline cuteness on lock.

Trivia

  • In the original Japanese version, Kiki loses her ability to communicate with Jiji permanently. Still, in the American dub, a line is added, which implies she can once again understand him. Miyazaki has said that Jiji represents the childish side of Kiki, and the reason why she loses her ability to communicate with him is that she has grown up.
  • The Disney dub at 1998/2010 version, Jiji, was Phil Hartman’s last role before his death in 1998.
