Varicose veins refer to a condition wherein the veins enlarge & twist under the skin. These appear as a bluish discoloration on the skin. It is caused due to accumulation of blood in the veins.

Food groups to consume in varicose veins:

1. Fiber: Help to improve blood circulation & prevent constipation

Foods to consume: Oats, sorghum, finger millets, brown rice, bran & pulses

2. Proteins: Help repair the damage & strengthen the veins

Foods to consume: Egg whites, lean chicken, fish & sprouts

3. Vitamin C: Help to form collagen & help gain strong & healthy
veins

Foods to consume: Oranges, kiwis, gooseberries, guava, lemons, cabbage, broccoli, green leafy vegetables & bell peppers

4. Vitamin E: Provide antioxidants & prevent damage to the veins

Recipes based on the above food groups:

Recipe 1: Gooseberry drink

1. Cut & de-seed 2 gooseberries
2. Put these in a blender
3. Add 1 tsp fennel seeds
4. ½ tsp star anise powder (chakri phool)
5. Add 1 cup of water to this mixture
6. Blend them well together
7. Strain this mixture in a glass
8. Now, add 1 tsp honey
9. Mix well and serve chilled

This drink tastes really good & also gives you your dose of Vitamin C

Recipe 2: Bean salad

1. Take 1/4th cup boiled black eye beans in a bowl
2. Add 1 finely chopped garlic clove to it
3. Now add ¼ chopped onion and ½ chopped tomato
4. Also add 1 tbsp chopped red, yellow and green pepper each
5. Next, add 2 tsp chopped basil leaves and 2-3 tsp chopped
parsley leaves
6. For seasoning, add ½ tsp oregano powder, 1 tsp fresh lemon
juice and 1 tsp olive oil
7. Then, add salt and pepper to taste
8. Mix all this well and allow it to marinate for 10 minutes
9. Once done, your salad is ready to eat
